The Bookmark Tool

The bookmark tool allows users to navigate quickly within a page. By placing a bookmark on your page you allow your users to easily jump to specific content on your page.

An example would be if you had an Articles page. On this page you listed six different articles. Perhaps somebody is only interested in the fifth article. So instead of them scrolling down past the first four articles to get to the fifth one; you could create a bookmark on each article so that somebody interested in just the fifth one could click on a button to take them down to that article:-

  • For example this link takes us to a bookmark: Click here to go to the bottom of this current page

Creating Bookmarks
  1. First you decide where you want to place your bookmark.
  2. Place your curser on the line you want your viewer to be taken to.
  3. Click on the bookmark icon
  4. This brings up the bookmark toolbar - name your bookmark and then press insert

5.  Once you hit insert you will see a blue # appear on your page. If you do not want people to see this icon, simply highlight it and change its color to the same as the background of your page (probably white).
6.  Now your bookmark is ready, the next step is to create the link to your bookmark - your users must click on a link to take them to the paragraph where you placed the bookmark.

Creating your Bookmarks Link
  1. The link to your bookmark works like any other link you would create. It may be word or an image, whichever you decide. Create it as you would any other link. For our previous example you may simple use Go to Article 6 #
  2. Like you do when you create a link, highlight your text (or image) and click on the hyperlink button
  3. This will bring up your hyperlink toolbox. Instead of Source, click on the Bookmark and in the drop down menu select the bookmark you want to link it to and click on insert.

4.  And that's it. Your bookmark link is created.

This is the bottom of the page! #
