Generated Page Links

Navigation links to your pages (of content) can automatically be generated by the website software. It is important to note that your website template must be designed with this intention. Click here to learn more about this.

For those sites utilizing the generated links, the way it works is by using a "Parenting" system:
  • Homepage:
    • News & Articles
    • Contact Us
    • Field Directions
Each of the above is a Content Page. We have 4 - Homepage, News & Articles, Contact Us and Field Directions. Homepage is the Parent page, and each of the other pages are parented to it. This means that on the Homepage you would see links to the 3 pages parented to it.

Parenting Pages:

On each of your Content Pages there is an optional drop menu labelled "Parent Page" (see fig 1).

fig 1. Parent Page drop box

When you select this drop box, a list of all of your content pages will be shown. Select the page that you would like as the Parent Page of your current one. By doing this you create a link for your current page on to the Parent Page you selected. For example, I create a new page titled About Us - it has some basic information about our club. I save and publish this page. Now I want two sub pages related to my About Us page:- a Mission Statement and a Members page. I want links to these two pages on my "About Us" page. First, I create a new page labelled "Mission Statement" and insert all of my content. Then, to create my link on the "About Us" page, I click on the Parent Page drop menu and select my "About Us" page. Save and publish the page. I do the exact same thing when I create the "Members" page.

Now when I look at my HTML Pages column, the layout of my pages reflect the Parenting system:

You can clearly see that the two pages "Mission Statement" and Members" are slightly indented beneath my "About Us" page and also have a different colored page icon next to them. When I now preview my "About Us" page, links to both my "Mission Statement" and my "Members" page has been automatically generated on the left hand side.

It is important to note that the links created will take the name of the TITLE of the page. You can determine the list order of these links by using the List Order# box above the Parent Page drop box. I wrote the number 1 for my Members page and 2 for my Mission Statement page.
